The Catenian Association is a social organisation of Catholic professional and businessmen. It has over 10,000 members world-wide and is centred in England with active provinces in Australia, Ireland, South Africa and Malta.

The Association exists primarily :
to foster brotherly love among its members to develop social bonds among its members and their families to assist young Catholics in the choice or pursuit of a career to administer benevolent funds for its members and their families

The Catenian Association was formed in 1908 with the approval of Bishop Casartelli, fourth Bishop of Salford, in 1908. The first Circle was (and remains) Manchester No. 1. It began life as the Chums Benevolent Association but the name was changed to The Catenian Association in 1910. There are now about 300 Circles in existence, providing an environment for Catholic business and professional men to meet socially and to encourage each other and their families.

You may not know but there is a network of Catenian Brothers (Catnet) who swap e-mail addresses and ideas and it now has its own message board for discussions set up by Bro Kevin Beach of Norwood Circle. The message board can be accessed at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/catenians. or fill in the box below

Rochdale Circle (72) is a dining circle and meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 8.00 pm at the Broadfield Hotel Any brothers visiting us will be assured of a warm welcome and an excellent meal. We have the lowest average age of the circles in Province 1 and try to involve our families as much as possible while keeping in touch with our older brothers and deceased brother's wives.

Could this have been a dispute over the score? Surely not.

Secretary Chris Roberts took the job on this year but only if he could have a 'Great Big Gong'

    Well... He got it

    Ladies Evening Nov '97

A welcome feature of the Rochdale Ladies Evenings is the large number of young people who love to come and share the evening with us.

In this picture, taken at Accrington Ladies Evening at the Dunkenhalgh we see Past President Ralph and Collette Gollcher

Talking about family activities, here's a shot of some of our intrepid band of caravaners having a midsummer barbecue in Cumbria. (1997) From left to right, Bros Bernard McGourley and Grandchildren, David Kershaw, Graham Sivills, Malcolm Jones, Jim McTague (Bury and Rossendale), John Woodhouse and Andrew Murray (Oldham)

It wasn't all bad news though because we were able to dry off in the clubhouse and dance the evening away to 'Jimmy James and the Vagabonds'. Pictured here are Bros Brian Hampshire (Oldham) and Jim and Pam McTague (Bury and Rossendale) with Bob and Stephanie Dunbar in the background.
