Saturday 17th November, 7:30pm
George Hotel, Piercebridge
Our main social events are our ceilidhs. These are not to be confused with the enjoyable-but-different "English" ceilidhs which are quite common around these parts. We start off with a magnificent buffet in the Hotel ballroom and then go on into the dancing, to music provided by a real Scots dance group. The dances are a mixture of easy Scottish Country and Old Tyme, which allows all ages to enjoy the dance floor. In fact, we find that most people are on the floor most of the time.
To allow the dancers a breather, and to enjoy the best of song from back home, we bring down a singer from Scotland. All our soloists are chosen from the testing field of the Royal National Mod, and if you think that that just means a series of dreary technical songs you are wrong! They are all proficient entertainers as well as being dedicated singers in the Gaelic. We are fortunate in having made many friends among the singers over the years - indeed making friends is a speciality in the Society.
For this ceilidh we welcome back Maìri MacArthur from Glasgow.
Tickets: £15-00 (members), £16-00 (non-members)
