St. Teresa's Hospice, Darlington

Darlington Gaelic Society has chosen St. Teresa's as its principal local charitable target.

Every year we hold a charity Coffee Morning or similar event, with the whole proceeds going to a local charity.

Last year, on 13th May, we held a Coffee Afternoon, in Walkington House, with all the usual stalls. From past experience, we knew that we should raise at least £300. In fact we raised £433, to which the Committee had decided to add £400, making £833 in all, and donated this to the work of the Hospice.

Currently, the Hospice plans are to work towards being able to offer residential care, as well as the current day-care and home-care services.

This will roughly double the running costs of the Hospice and the bulk of the costs are met by donation.

Last year, a group of Society members visited the Hospice at The Woodlands to present our cheque and be shown around by fund-raising director David Jones. We were greatly impressed with the progress made since the early days in Harewood House and the level of care and services which are offered.

Just to prove we were there, here is the team photograph with the cheque.
