OK: Here's Dave's DIY Guide to getting Oasis 1.35 and NOS to work with
a PPP connection to Zetnet for those of you wanting mailshots or whatever:
1) Get hold of the OASIS135.TOS package. This can be obtained from http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/systems/atari/ under something like "umich/network/oasis" - it's obvious once you're there. 2) Extract said file, and copy the folders to the root of drive c: 3) Rename the OASIS.135 folder to OASIS.133 (cockup by programmers) 4) Run the installation program. 5) Set it up to the best of your abilities. A few things to consider: - No Host name - Domain Name "zetnet.co.uk" - user name: your email address without the "@zetnet.co.uk" - file name: your username (truncated if necessary to fit the 8+3 system used by TOS, eg dave.henderson = DAVE.HEN) - organisation: anything you like. - newsserver "znews.zetnet.co.uk" - DNS or nameserver (if it asks): [194.247.47.47] - Ignore all references to dial scripts (find resp etc. phone number, provider name etc..) 6) Get hold of NOS_POP3.TTP, again available at wustl address in same place. 7) Delete c:\oasis\nos.ttp and copy and rename nos_pop3.ttp to c:\oasis\nos.ttp 8) Delete the c:\oasis\startup.nos file and replace with the one available here - amending as appropriate: - pop mailbox FILENAME : change FILENAME to the filename used earlier in oasis, eg: dave.hen - pop userdata USERNAME PASSWORD : USERNAME is your username as above - the password is the one aggreed with zetnet for login and AntMail. - if you have a 28.8K modem, a Falcon, TT or MegaSTE and are using Modem 2, change the BAUD RATE to 110. - Don't forget it's called STARTUP.NOS 9) Delete c:\oasis\dial.txt and replace with this one - amending as appropriate: - Your Name - Your Registration Code - Your Account Number - Your Password 10) Run Oasis, select "Internet", then select "Log-On" in oasis - after a few seconds you should connect and the NET> prompt should appear. Use "smtp kick" to send mail, "pop kick" to receive and "nntp kick" to send and receive news. You should now have a fully operational Oasis/NOS setup with PPP access to everything with the exception of the World Wide Web. Best of luck, David.
