Setting Up Antmail/Newsie

Rule Number One...

Read the manual. Yes, I know it's obvious. Yes, I know it's boring. But Antmail has some peculiar non-standard quirks so it's best to find out what's going on and Newsie has a lot more to it than e-mail alone!

Your Details

Your username for pop3 mail is the first part of your e-mail address. ie: The bit before the @. In my case this is dhend. If you decided on the address mister.bloggs@zetnet.co.uk, yours would be mister.bloggs.

Your password is the password you submitted at subscription. And is the non-wholly-numerical login details you were sent.

Server Settings

Now, this is nice and simple set the pop3 host to mail.zetnet.co.uk and the SMTP host to mail.zetnet.co.uk too.
If you do find it doesn't want to play try using the other program. Then mail me!

A tip: I know it's not ideal, but in Antmail I'd recomend that you select not to delete the mail on the server automatically - but rather select verbose listing and use Check Mail and select what to download and what to delete.
It's good for safety - remember Antmail is not a full release, yet.

One last thing - Never use Antmail 0.7.7
Always use 0.7.9.

If you've a newer version, ignore this

And that should be it for Ant. The rest should be obvious and covered in the docs that accompany it.

I'd personally recomend you use Newsie for everything. Hopefully it's as simple to set up as mentioned here.

Send yourself a few test mails to check, and if you're unsure (and you have the means), mail me at dh219@chiark.greenend.org.uk.

Right, back a page, then
