Catrìona and the Colourists

Bocsa Director Catrìona Black featured in this half-hour documentary
in September 2004. Catrìona and the Colourists follows
Catrìona's efforts to locate the places where the famous Scottish
painters made their landscapes, and to recreate them on the spot as
animations.
Production company MacTV approached Catrìona after seeing Pìobairean
Bhòrnais at the Celtic Film and Television Festival.
Her method of making animations like moving oil paintings, together
with her knowledge of art history, made her the perfect woman for
the job.
The result is a highly entertaining story, charting the highs and
lows of following in the footsteps of Peploe, Hunter, Cadell and Fergusson.
Not to mention the gnashing of teeth involved in trying to make an
animation with real paint, on three panes of glass, with an old-fashioned
film camera, on a windy beach, in less than a day.
Catrìona
and the Colourists screened as part
of the art series Ealtainn on BBC2 Scotland in September 2004,
and in May 2005. It was nominated for an award at the Celtic
Film and Television Festival, which took place in April 2005.
