Superhero

Following the success of Catrìona 's na Colourists, Catrìona Black has teamed up with MacTV to make a second half-hour documentary.

Amazed that Gaeldom – despite all its myths and legends – has no cartoon superhero of its own, Catrìona decides it's time to create one. Seeking out Gaels from all walks of life, Catrìona asks them how they see the first Gaelic cartoon superhero.

Catrìona speaks to experts in the worlds of art, poetry, politics and fishing. Sketching all the time, she soon builds up a picture of the heroes and villains in today's Gaelic imagination.

Finally Catrìona finds her superhero: she is Sgàthach, the legendary warrior queen from Skye. In a contemporary twist, Sgàthach is accompanied in her fight for The Gaelic Way by a faithful army of Uist hedgehogs.

In Sgàthach's first action-packed adventure, the superheroine pits her wits against the evil Poacherman, a scaled villain with an inexplicable hatred for fish.

Superhero was screened as part of the art series Ealtainn on BBC2 Scotland in October 2005.
