As solar activity starts to increase again after sunspot minimum the chances of witnessing a display of the Aurora Borealis, more popularly known as the Northern Lights, will also increase. Although major displays may be seen from the southern parts of the United Kingdom some of the best views are seen from Scotland. The following images have all been taken from the southern shores of the Moray Firth in Scotland over the last ten years.

Observers of the aurora use a special abbreviated code when describing a display.
