Photographic Details

All of the images reproduced on the following pages were taken with modest photographic equipment, except for the Moon which was imaged through a 150mm Newtonian Reflecting telescope.

All the auroral images were obtained with a Pentax SPF single lens reflex camera and a 28mm wide angle lens purchased in 1975. Fuji 400 ISO slide film, a tripod and cable release mechanism were also used and exposures were typically 20 to 30 seconds at f2.8.

A similar setup was used for Comet Hale-Bopp but a standard 55mm f1.8 lens or a 135mm f2.8 lens was used. Only one picture was guided, that of the comet over the neighbours house which was a 5 minute exposure with the 135mm lens.
