Jim sadly passed away in hospital on Monday 6th. of November 2006. Those of you who knew Jim well were aware of his ill health and serious medical problems. He died peacefully and is now free of pain.
We will miss Jim, and I'm sure many of you have some great memories of him. If any of you would like to write your memories of him\photos or add a tribute please do so by sending me an e-mail at this address:
ken.ironside@zetnet.co.uk
They will be printed out by me and taken to his funeral. These contributions will be passed on to his youngest daughter Rosie (12) as a tribute to Jim's memory.
Many thanks from Jim's family & friends who read the valued e-mails which many of you sent. They are being kept as a memento because Jim's other daughter in Australia (Kathlenne) may wish to have copies, and of course Jim's brother Jack will treasure copies of them.
The service at St. Peters Church was quite moving - and included music which Jim had chosen - such as Rod Stewarts "Sailing" and a Bob Dylan track. About 30 people attended including ex-crew Linda Duncan plus husband Frank, Vicky Penrice, Maureen (Mo - surname unknown!) and of course ourselves.
At the pub afterwards Jack Galloway enjoyed listening to stories of Jim in his seafaring days & lots of photos were passed around. Some of these will be added to the "Picture Gallery".
A heartfelt thanks once again to all of you who contributed to giving comfort and good memories of Jim to his family.
Below is the order of the service for you all to view:
Jack Galloway (Jim's brother) has requested that this page be added to the site. I am sure that his tribute will touch the hearts of all those who knew Jim:
In the meantime you may wish to view the photos Jim allowed me to add to the site on this link:
