The Big Walk

As the major diocesan millennium event a large cross made from English Oak has been carried around the Diocese of Bradford. Parishes were given the responsibility for carrying the cross from one church to the next. The walk began at the Cathedral on Sunday 4th June and ended there on Saturday 15th July.

The first leg of our walk began at Bracewell, where we received the cross from Marton parish.

And then it was over the fields to Barnoldswick. In the background is ‘monkroyd’, site of the original Anglo-Saxon church

Now it was the turn of Holy Trinity Parish Church congregation to walk along the main road to St Mary’s Kelbrook

The final leg of the day began from St Mary-le-Gill where we received the cross from All Saints, Earby. The walk took us across the golf course to St Mary’s Thornton-in-Craven.

One of our youngest walkers leaves the cross in the safe keeping of Revd Trevor Vaughan, at St Mary’s.
