In Tudor mansion in Herpenden, England, (now an agricultural research station) but then the home of No 1 Special Wireless Group, a Royal Corps of Signals unit covered the German Military government HQ in Kiev, took a signal ordering the billeting of another 100,000 troops in transit by D-day. Three ATS operators covering the German Railways from their HQ near Harrogate had been taking down wireless traffic listing German railway timetables, mostly regular massages, but with other request's for special trains. It was noted that the specials were ordered to Kiev to being out troops, this now confirmed, Special Wireless Group's signal. Those recalled were going to regimental home units and those to Kiev were from base units. Fresh troops were going to the same areas " Special" timetables gave freight, source and destination.
