After 36 years' contribution to the music, sport and oenology of Campbell College, Michael McGuffin retired from the staff (and, yes, if you are wondering, that is a deliberate musical pun!) this year. We wish him a long and happy retirement. He will probably still be tinkling on the ivories. Oh well, chacun á son gout!
His role as Head of the Music department will taken over by David Catherwood, after he has had time to compose himself. He is now assisted by Sarah Tutton, and we hope that she does not find David too crotchety! Other new faces are Philip Stafford, replacing Paula Philpott in the Mathematics (and, indeed, hockey) department, and Lorna McBride in the Geography department. Tim Smith also joins us as a part-time member of the Art department; Rebecca Perera is the new element in the Chemistry department as Technician; and Anne McCord is the new Reprographics Assistant, the new Reprographics Assistant, the new Repro.... - one copy will suffice, thank you! We wish them well in their time at Campbell.
We were greatly saddened to learn of the recent death of two former colleagues: John Cook, former headmaster, (1954-1971) and Sidney Moore, Head of Classics and Librarian, (1950-1978). Their immense good humour will be missed, and we offer their families our sincerest condolences.
We say adieu to Jill Moore, our Chemistry technician,
who lit more than Bunsen Burners, and who is departing to undertake research
and to lecture in Anatomy - we make no bones about it! David McDowell has
relinquished the reins of Lytle's House. Congratulations to Karen Thompson
(or is that Thomspon?) on becoming the first female Housemaster (or is that
Housemistress?) in Campbell's 103-year history. Julie-Ann Lenaghan has been
appointed Assistant Examinations Officer, and Sarah Blease is in charge
of Special Educational Needs. William McKee is the new Teacher Governor.
Philip Hart is now the proud father of Ryan. If only he had added the initial
C before his name, the child would now be a well-known pop song!
Trois de nos nombres sont ou ont été enceintes. We wish Paula Philpott (who has delivered Rachel Sarah at 8lbs 6oz - now, Maths Department, how much is that in kilometres?!), Julia Fielding and Kate Smyth - and their families - much happiness.
Congratulations to one and all.
