Monthly Meditation

Just recently we saw a Hercules Aircraft flying low over the hills, it made me realise just how much I have missed them since they moved off to Brize Norton last July. Whilst it came over very low it soon began to climb and then to rise up above the heavy clouds of that day. As it climbed leaving us in the dullness of the day I remembered that once it passed through those clouds it would be in the sunshine, above the clouds it is always sunny. Every day actually is a sunny day; it is just that clouds so often block our view of it. Life can be a bit like that; God’s love is there for us every day, yet we often allow the pressures of the day to block it out. We need to be reminded that “new every day is God’s love” for us.

There is an old Christian song we used to sing, it was very short, just 4 lines in all, if I remember correctly, it went: “Got any rivers you think are uncrossable, got any mountains you can’t tunnel through, God specialises in things thought impossible, He can do just what none other can do”. That’s just how life seems to be sometimes, the way ahead seems impossible and we wonder as to what we are going to do; how we will face the difficulties that so often seem to lie ahead of us. Yet we have a God who cares for us and for whom nothing at all is impossible. He is able to change the circumstances we face, or else to change us, or enable us so that we can face that which lies ahead. We have a God of the impossible for whom nothing is too difficult, if we will just turn to Him and call upon His Name. We face all kinds of things we would never choose to have to bear, but we don’t have to be alone in them, because our Heavenly Father will always be with us. He showed His love for us when He sent His Son Jesus into this world. In the Bible in Romans 5:8 it says “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

This month we have an extra day; 29 days in this month of February; a leap year. An extra day, what will we do with it I wonder? Will it be just another day for us to perhaps worry and fret and be fearful? Or will it be another opportunity to see the mighty hand of a loving God working in our lives.

In the Bible in Hebrews 13:5-6 it says “God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you”. So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.” And in Luke 1:37 it says “For nothing is impossible with God.”
