DITCHBURN ANCESTRY SITE

COMPILED BY ROBIN DITCHBURN

It is probable that all families with the name Ditchburn originated in the area around the farmsteads of East and West Ditchburn in the county of Northumberland in the north of England. Ditchburns are recorded as owning 'Ditchburn' in the middle ages. In the 17th century Ditchburns are registered as living and working at West Ditchburn. My own family tree has been traced back to a Ditchburn who farmed in the neighbourhood.

Partly in an attempt to determine whether it is true that all present-day Ditchburns originate in this part of Northumberland I have undertaken a One-Name Study.
