CAITHNESS OPEN SHORE COMPETITION
27th September 1997

Dear Angler

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the fourth annual Open Shore Championship held in Caithness.

The event will be pegged and zoned on the beaches of Caithness and will take place from 1 pm to 7 pm to take advantage of the fishing during the early hours of darkness.

The competition will be fished on a conservation basis with all fish being measured and returned immediately after capture.

Registration and the draw will take place from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Esplanade car park, Thurso but pre-booking is advised. The presentation of prizes will take place immediately after the event.

GENERAL RULES

2. Anglers must obey the zone steward at all times.
3. Mackerel and weavers are not eligible for weigh-in.
4. A minimum size limit of 20 cm for all species shall apply.
5. Points will be allocated as follows :- 1 point per centimetre, 5 point per fish and 5 point per species.
All measuring and recording must be witnessed by the angler and the zone stewards. All fish must be returned to the sea immediately after measuring and recording.

THE POINTS SYSTEM

To ensure as far as possible that every angler has an equal chance in the Competition the event will be fished on a points system.

The points are calculated as above to give each angler an initial points total. The top angler in each zone is then given 100 points and all other anglers in that zone are then given points based on a percentage of the leading angler’s score.

In the event of a tie the anglers will be separated firstly by the total points score followed by the total length, numbers of fish and numbers of species if required.
