bullet  General Notes:

After his second wife died, Sutherland Sinclair registered a Trust Disposition and Deed of Settlement to care for his children in the event of his death. He appointed the following people to be the Trustees:
[1] Thomas Callander, Shipowner, residing in Ardgowan Square Greenock; Thomas was either the father or, more likely, the brother, of Sutherland's second wife, Margaret Callander. Thomas declined the appointment as Trustee.
[2] Reverend George Wade, Minister of the United Presbyterian Church Falkirk; George Wade was the husband of Eliza or Elizabeth Callander, possibly a sister of Margaret's? Sutherland's youngest son (George Wade Sinclair) was presumably named after this person, so he must have been a close friend/colleague.
[3] Robert Leslie Smith, Draper, Dunoon; Robert was the second husband of Sutherland's sister Mary Sinclair. At the time of the 1881 census, two of Sutherland's children, Margaret (22) and Russell (19), were living with Robert and Mary Smith.
[4] Robert Mitchell, Merchant and Baker, Kirn; this Robert was the husband of another of Sinclair's sisters.
[5] Daniel Paterson, Clothier in Greenock;
[6] James Paterson, Managing Clerk in Greenock.
Unsure about who the last two people were. However the notes sent to me by another researcher indicate that, when Sutherland was growing up in Orkney, one of his religious mentors was a Revd Paterson - perhaps these last two were relatives of his?
