BIOGRAPHY Drop
the Box have been described as "one of the most exciting bands to
emerge from the Shetland Islands in many years". Their unique style
blends pop and indie styles with traditional Shetland influences,
performed with style, energy and amazingly tight musicianship. Live on
stage, Drop the Box exude charm and confidence. Their original material
ranges from heartfelt ballads, to "celticized acid jazz" numbers
and funky fired up sets of traditional tunes. Fronted by
original protagonists and song writers, James Henry (guitar and
vocals) and Inge Thomson (accordion, flute and vocals), the current
band line up features Mark Laurenson on fiddle, Russell Gair
on drums and bassist Jonathan Ritch. Formed and based
for many years in Aberdeen, Drop the Box recorded and released two albums
with Glasgow based record company KRL, "Drop the Box" in 1994
and "Honeytrap" in 1998. A hectic touring schedule around the
U.K. and Europe established the band as one of the top up and coming
Scottish bands on the folk/roots music scene. The Drop the Box
C.V. includes a number of festival appearances, including T in the Park,
Lorient Festival Interceltique (where they stole the show supporting
Sinead O'Connor in front of an 8,000 strong audience), Cambridge , Celtic
Connections and the enchanting Larmer Tree festival. They have toured
Russia, North America, France, Scandinavia and Italy, 2001 saw the
release, on their own label, of the band’s finest recording to date,
"Loveday", which received very positive critical acclaim and
increased interest in the band. |
