Award for Ken

Ken and Janice Clasper with the Civic Award - a golden key

Local campaigner Ken Clasper has been given a Civic Award by Chester-le-Street Council.

Ken is a member of the Society's "Living with Dementia" working group and his award is for raising awareness of dementia.

Branch Manager Jennifer Brown nominated Ken for the award. Commenting on Ken's success, Jennifer said,

"Ken is somewhat of a celebrity locally. People even stop him on the street to congratulate him.

"He is the local face and voice of an estimated 18,000 younger people with dementia in the UK. He's a quiet and modest man but his words are powerful."

Ken's response was simply,

"I honestly didn't expect anything like this, and I'm humbled to say the least."
