The branch Open Day at Chester-le-Street Parish Centre on Monday 26 March 2001 was an undoubted success.

The event was attended by up to thirty people interested in dementia, mainly professionals involved with the care of clients, but also carers and in some cases, their loved ones as well.

The principle aim of the day was to highlight the branch's new services for younger people with dementia (defined as those under 65), which seems to be a growing problem.

There was a presentation at which, after a brief introduction by the branch chairman, Jennifer Brown, Branch Manager and Debbie Keenan, Care Services Manager, talked about the work of the branch with particular reference to younger people. A video showing the activities the younger people undertake in the care of the branch was shown, with their full permission of course, which proved a great draw. And there was a full range of information available about the work of the branch.

The success of the event was a tribute the hard work and dedication put in by Mrs Brown and her staff.
