Golfers have clubbed together to raise £500 for the Alzheimer's Society.
The Durham and Chester-le-Street branch of the society has been presented with a cheque 28 November 2001 as a result of a year of competitions and events held by the Beamish Park Golf Club. The branch was the club's chosen charity for 2001 and Eileen Gartside, the Club Captain for 2001, presented the cheque on behalf of the club to Jennifer Brown, Branch Manager.

The club chose the branch rather than the Alzheimer's Society nationally because they wanted it to benefit local people directly. Mrs Brown said, "We are very grateful for the kindness shown by the club. We operate Home Support and Day Care locally, as well as a new project to help younger people with dementia. The money will certainly spent in this area."
