Branch Manager Jennifer Brown took the team along to a conference "Promoting Mental Health" at St. Aidan's College on 6th April 2000. The team was branch secretary Teresa Pryor, chairman Patrick Nethercot and to give a carer's perspective, Laurie Brown.

Laurie wins their hearts

One of the workshops was led by Jennifer, who gave a talk about the work of the Alzheimer's Society and branch, followed by Laurie, who spoke from the heart of his experiences caring for his late wife. The group soon empathised with him and this amply demonstrated the value of the society's work.
Other topics covered on the day included mental health as an aspect of general health and the stigma and discrimination suffered by those with mental conditions.
