Society Changes its image

The Society has changed its name and logo. It was founded in 1979 as the Alzheimer's Disease Society with its distinctive logo of a carer, head in hands, those being the people the society set out to help, and which still constitutes a major part of its work.

The old and new logos

Maybe it was Millennium fever, but the powers that be decided that after twenty years it was time for a change, and the term Disease was dropped from the society's name, so it is now officially the Alzheimer's Society. This reflects the society's increasing role in other areas of dementia care, especially research, which is reflected in the new "strapline", Dementia Care & Research.

The old logo and name are still registered and existing materials can be used as long as stocks last, so the two will run in tandem for a time.

October 1999.
