The 1999 Total Solar Eclipse

The following pages have images of various stages of the eclipse.

• The first contact, the eclipse starts. Though most in the UK were well into the eclipse already.
• The partial phase of the eclipse. Several images showing the sun being covered by the moon as it progresses across. Have you ever seen a purple sun before ?
• Second contact, the diamond ring, totality begins.
• Totality, this page has several images showing the corona. Unfortunately the very visually striking prominences were not captured photographically.
• Third Contact. The total eclipse is now ending as the sun bursts forth from behind the moon. This is followed by the anti-climax of another partial phase.
