In particular I am doing a one name study of GAMPTON, and its variant spellings: GEMPTON, GIMPTON, GOMPTON, GALMPTON, even GUMPTION etc. The family started in Galmpton, a fishing village in Devon, UK. There are some records from the 13th century. The family have been sailing boats from the 16th century; in the early 19th century they started to spread: to Dover, Ramsgate, Hull, Australia, New Zealand and recently to the South Pacific Islands.
Any information on these would be welcome, but I have all the data from the IGI (UK, USA, Australia).
Tired of trying to draw out large family trees, I wrote NEWGEN in 1987 to do this painlessly. More recently I have started to rewrite my program (provisionally called SUPAGEN).
