Resources we use for people with a learning disability

Here are some things to get you started:

• Jesus Life A set of PDF files that I used as displays to demonstrate key points in the lilfe of Jesus. They were a backdrop to a talk, a drama or however we were presenting the truth.

We have found it hard to locate Christian resources for people with a learning disability.

Causeway PROSPECTS does have some good material, but our experience shows that it is of more use to the more able person but none the less valuable for that.

If you know of other good materials-, PLEASE let us know! We are keen to learn.

Bibles:

I have not settled on one good one yet. All these have good and bad points so we use them interchangeably!

• "Easy to read version" published by World Bible Translation Center. ISBN 1-885427-38-7. I still think that on occasions it is not concrete enough, and there are too many difficult words and constructs.
• "The Message" by Eugene H Peterson, published by NAV Press. This has a heavy American bias, but is excellent nevertheless.
• "The Street Bible" by Rob Lacey published by Zondervan. ISBN 0 00 7107900. Bits of this are excellent, but do be selective!

The Easy English website.
From Wycliffe Associates, and publishes parts of the Bible in Easy English. There has been contact between this project and Causeway Prospects. This Easy English website is well worth a visit. It is a project in progress! Take a look at the glossaries at the end of many of the documents.

The Lion Story Teller Bible

My own version.
I am putting bits of the bible into what I hope (!!) is simple English. I update it every now and again. This is in a very early stage and very bitty! As I need a passage I create it!

Some of the passages are interactive. The bits in bold prompt a response from the listener. See for example Acts 1 - the story of the Ascension.
