19th November - Julia Matthews

Praise is powerful, and allows God to work in our situation. Do not look at the problem but at God.

Concentrate on problem and it gets to look big. Concentrate on God and He looks big. (in comparison)

See Ps 142.5

Praise means:

  • to consider to be good, important, worthy
  • To give approval to, to honour, thank, to exalt, to lift up
  • to declare, verbal and outward, not just in our hearts! Confess with our lips, be impressed by - there is no one like God, and He is great!
  • to celebrate, exuberance, joy, jubilation
  • acknowledgement of kingship
  • to applaud, to compliment, to champion, be amazed by, give tribute to
  • to ascribe
  • to appreciate, give recognition to, to boast of, ... moving towards worship
  • to love
  • wonder, adoration, reverence.

When we praise things change because:

  • God inhabits the praises of His people - when God comes things change.
  • Praise edifies us - builds us stronger and encourages us
  • Give and it shall be given to you - as we give to God he is able to bless us back
  • Renews our perspectives on God and our lives
  • Releases fresh faith and boldness - protection
  • Releases the Holy Spirit and His gifts
  • Creates victory (Chronicles 20:15-22) over, for example strongholds, sickness and depression
  • Cures dryness (Numbers 21:16-17)

Praise not just on Sundays, but every day at any time!
