1996 Events

The Horse Trials.

This is now becoming very regular with 2 events every year. A good source of funds but as these 2 events are in
early Spring and late Autumn they get a bit cold. This one passed with a lot less incidents that the previous years.
We did have 2 Ambulances at the event this time though, probably because they had so much to do last time.
This time there was nothing for them though.

The Waendel 18-19 May 1996.

Only 2 missing person searches on the Saturday. One was a Dutchman and the only word of English that he knew was blue, this was OK as it was the
colour of the route he was on, he was found en route and wasn't really lost.

The second was a search for a group of Corby / Kettering Army Cadets. Accurate descriptions were made up with details from G7MRI and G6EGO,
"About 6 cadets, green trousers, Red Tee-shirts and a Star shaped badge on their berets".
Good so far, unfortunately just after the description was given out they changed their kit. But we found them anyway.
Further investigation after the event indicates that they had followed the Green route instead of the Blue as far as the Crown at Grendon and then
crossed between routes to get back to Hardwater Crossing. We picked them up again as they got back to the Blue Route

Weedon 10K Run 12 June 1996

This event went off as easily as normal.  The actual running time of the event was just about an hour.

If there was ever any doubt as to whether we still have a role at events, now that the St. John carry radios, then this one proved that we are still needed.
A direct one-to-one comparison of RAYNET v St. John radio range showed that St. John could, at times, just about manage contact from one
checkpoint to the next. On the other hand we could all hear each other, all round the course.

The Nene Valley Venture. 16 June

Although this is a Northampton event a number of the Daventry Group turned up to help out.
The event was totally uneventful and only 8 walkers turned up for what used to be called the Medium route,
Because off a lack of interest last year the old Long route was not used.
