The flowers, Dec-Apr, open with a pink (H8) corolla and heliotrope (H12) sepals. The corolla deepens throughout the flowering period to heliotrope (H12). Mid-green foliage. One of the many introductions in this species by J. W. Porter, Carryduff, Co. Down, Northern Ireland. Named after one of J. W. Porter's friends and one-time Superintendent of the Belfast Botanic Garden Park. Ht. 46-60cm. Spd. 46-60cm.
Long racemes of pink (H8) flowers, Dec-Apr, which deepen with age to heliotrope (H12). Slightly scented. Mid-green foliage tipped cream in spring. Found at Conway, North Wales by A. T. Johnson. Ht. 46-60cm. Spd. 61-75cm.
Very large lilac pink (H11) flowers, Oct-Mar, with mid-green foliage. Although a sport from 'Darley Dale' found at Renens, Switzerland by Henri Brégeon, Vand, Switzerland in 1980, it has a more open habit. This cultivar is thought to be polyploid as it has fertile pollen. It is less hardy than most Erica x darleyensis. Ht. 26-30cm. Spd. 46-60cm.
The flowers, Nov-Apr, open shell pink (H16) and darken to pink (H8) as the season progresses. Mid-green foliage with cream tips in spring. Seedling found on James Smith's Nursery, at Darley Dale, Derbyshire, England by 1900, hence its name. Ht. 26-30cm. Spd. 46-60cm.
White flowers, Jan-May, with mid-green foliage. More compact in habit and an improvement on 'Silberschmelze' from which it was a sport. Free flowering. Of Scottish origin. Ht. 31-45cm. Spd. 46-60cm.
Lilac (H4) flowers Jan-May, on mid-green foliage. It is similar to 'Jenny Porter' but the foliage does not colour in spring. A seedling found at Emst, Netherlands and named after the nearby town. Ht. 26-30cm. Spd. 46-60cm.

The pink (H8) flowers, Nov-May, deepen on ageing to heliotrope (H12). Light green foliage with cream tips in spring. Found by Jack Brummage, Taverham, Norfolk, England and named after his house. It is possibly a sport from 'Darley Dale'. Ht. 26-30cm. Spd. 75-100cm.
Pink flowers with a pale pink calyx, Jan-May, with green-gold foliage in summer, changing to yellow-gold in winter. Broad upright habit. More vigorous and foliage less orange than other golden-foliaged E. x darleyensis. It is a deliberate cross between E. carnea 'Golden Starlet' x E. erigena 'Brian Proudley' made in 1996 by David Wilson, Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. The name alludes to the foliage colour and western North American history.
Salmon pink flowers with a cream calyx in sturdy upright flower spikes, Nov -- May; with mid-green foliage. Compact, spreading, habit. Another deliberate cross between E. carnea 'Treasure Trove' x E. erigena 'Irish Dusk' (hence the name) made by David Wilson in 1998.
Heliotrope (H12) flowers, Jan-May, with yellow orange foliage throughout the year. Found by Jack H. Brummage on his nursery at Taverham, Norwich, Norfolk, England. Ht. 26-30cm. Spd. 46-60cm.

Magenta (H14) flowers, Jan-Apr, with dark bronze/green foliage. This cultivar created by a deliberate cross by Kurt Kramer between Erica carnea 'Myretoun Ruby' and Erica erigena 'Brightness', has the flower colour of 'Myretoun Ruby' with foliage similar to Erica carnea 'Vivellii'. The most outstanding plant of recent times. Progeny: 'Eva Gold'; 'Lena'; 'Tweety'; 'White Fairy' Ht. 31-45cm. Spd. 46-60cm.

Pink (H8) flowers, Feb-Apr, with yellow/gold foliage bronzing in winter. The foliage colour is deeper than 'Jack H. Brummage' making this cultivar more colourful in benign environments. Slower growing than 'Jack H. Brummage'. Recommended. Found by Peter Foley as a seedling at his nursery in Bolton-by-Bowland, Lancashire, England and named after his daughter. Ht. 21-25cm. Spd. 31-45cm.
Deep pink flowers, Dec-Apr, with mid-green foliage. One of a three named seedlings from Anne Parris' work on hybridising. This is the only one where she succeeded in obtaining the cross. Ht. 31-45cm. Spd. 46-60cm.
White flowers, Dec-Apr, with dark green foliage. Similar to 'Silberschmelze' but flowers slightly earlier. Found by Norman Webster as a chance seedling in his garden in Elgin, Scotland. Ht. 26-30cm. Spd. 31-45cm.
Ashen white flowers, Dec-May, with mid-green foliage. The cream tips in spring are not pronounced. Found at Wuppertal, Germany by Georg Arends and introduced by him by 1939. The name means "molten silver" referring to the flowers. Progeny: 'Dunreggan'; 'White Perfection'. Ht. 31-45cm. Spd. 75-100cm.
Dark rose flowers, Mar-May, with dark green foliage which does not have coloured tips in spring. Broad upright habit. A result of deliberate breeding by Kurt Kramer, it is tetraploid and considered by some to be E. erigena. Ht. 31-45cm. Spd. 46-60cm.
Magenta (H14) flowers, Nov-Apr, but does not flower freely. It has bright golden foliage, orange tinted in winter. Broad, spreading habit. Sport from 'Kramer's Rote' found about 1996 by Arnold Bakhuyzen at his nursery in Boskoop, Netherlands. Named after that little yellow baby bird in cartoons. Ht. 30cm. Spd. 45cm.
The flowers, Dec-Apr, open pink (H8) before deepening with age to heliotrope (H12). Dark green foliage tipped red in spring. Broad habit. Lower and more floriferous than 'Furzey' or 'J. W. Porter'. This was the first hybrid produced by J. W. Porter but the person commemorated in the name is unknown. Ht. 16-20cm. Spd. 46-60cm.

Pure white flowers, Dec-Apr, with bright green foliage tipped yellow in Spring. Erect habit. Outstanding. Best of the whites found as a sport on 'Silberschmelze' in the Netherlands. Ht. 31-45cm. Spd. 61-75cm.
