Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the IRM?

The IRM is the ISKCON Revival Movement, and is a movement composed of many ISKCON Temple Presidents and other ISKCON devotees and supporters from all over the world.

2. Why Does the IRM Exist?

Since the physical departure of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Srila Prabhupada from our material vision on November 14th, 1977, the  International Society For Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), the great movement which he single-handedly founded in 1966, and which is the only hope for humanity, has undergone a massive deterioration in its spiritual purity.

This has been due to various deviations from the instructions and standards given by Srila Prabhupada, the chief of which being his displacement as the sole Diksa Guru for ISKCON. The ISKCON Revival Movement (IRM) seeks to restore ISKCON to its former glory through the re-institution  of all the instructions and standards that Srila Prabhupada gave, beginning  with his role as the sole authority and Diksa Guru for ISKCON. The IRM's position is set out in 'The Final Order' and 'No Change in ISKCON Pardigm' (N.C.I.P.) position papers. Both these papers are available on our website, which can be found at:  http://come.to/IRM

3. Is the IRM separate from ISKCON?

No. It is a 'movement within a movement' composed of ISKCON members who seek to reform and revive the movement from the inside.

4. Is the aim of the IRM to form a new movement?

No. It is to revive the current ISKCON movement that Srila Prabhupada originally left us in a healthy and vibrant state.

5. Why is the IRM in New York?

We believe the movement can only be healthy if the root of the movement, New York, where the movement was founded, is healthy. When Srila Prabhupada left the planet, he left us a huge prestigious skyscraper temple building in Manhattan, and the movement was indeed healthy. The center you are visiting today is merely the office that will serve as the base by which we will reacquire a skyscraper temple in Manhattan. The IRM center in New York is dedicated to revitalizing mass book distribution on the streets. By going back to this basic program established by Srila Prabhupada here in New York, it will act as the catalyst by which we will be able to revive the movement throughout the whole of the USA.

We are also launching a number of other projects throughout the world, as well as taking over existing temples, who are once again thriving having restored Srila Prabhupada as the sole Guru for the movement.

6. Why is the IRM Sure That It is Correct?

Srila Prabhupada was extremely meticulous in giving precise directions for how the movement should be run. Consequently he set up a management committee that would manage the movement in his absence known as the Governing Body Commission (GBC). Whose function is defined as follows :

"The GBC has no other function or purpose other than to execute the instructions so kindly given by His Divine Grace and preserve and spread His Teachings to the world in their pure form."  (Definition of GBC, Resolution 1, GBC minutes 1975)

His final order in regards to initiation was a directive sent to the whole movement less than 130 days before he departed, which stated that Srila Prabhupada would continue to give initiation via the use of Ritvik priests. In this directive it states 3 times that Srila Prabhupada will remain as the initiating Guru for ISKCON.

His Last Will and Testament enshrined these systems by stating that:

"The system of management will continue as it is now and there is no need of any change."

Straight after Srila Prabhupada's departure, the GBC did not continue to execute Srila Prabhupada's orders as they were set up to do, and instead decided to appoint themselves Guru successors to Srila Prabhupada. Today there are 70 Gurus, and virtually all of the GBCs are themselves Gurus.

With everything codified so precisely by Srila Prabhupada, we have an open and shut legal case that the GBC are disobeying Srila Prabhupada and therefore we have also launched a legal action in the Calcutta High Court to obtain justice for Srila Prabhupada and compel the GBC to re-instate him as the Guru for ISKCON just as he desired.

7. Didn't Srila Prabhupada Want Everyone to Be a Guru?

Yes, but only as teachers and preachers who would bring everyone to Srila Prabhupada's feet, to become a direct disciple of Srila Prabhupada. After having presented Lord Caitanya's instruction for everyone to become Guru, Srila Prabhupada explains that this only means as a preacher and that:

"It is Best Not To Accept Any Disciples"   (Caitanya Caritamrta, Madhya Lila, 7:130, Purport)

8. How Will the Parampara Continue?

The parampara will CONTINUE with Srila Prabhupada as the Guru for ISKCON for as long as ISKCON continues. Though traditionally the initiating Guru is present physically to initiate the disciple, Srila Prabhupada did not physically meet the majority of his disciples, and most disciples were instructed by Srila Prabhupada's books and trained up by the temple presidents. This system Srila Prabhupada wanted to continue, as evidenced by his final directive on the matter.

9. Why Will the Movement Be Revived If Srila Prabhupada is restored as the sole Diksa Guru?

With everyone having the same direct relationship as Srila Prabhupada's disciples, it will eliminate factionalism and foster a united team spirit, with everyone working for the same goal - the glorification of Srila Prabhupada only. The continual loss of properties, faith and personnel will be eliminated as faith is only placed in Srila Prabhupada, and not in fallible substitutes. Money currently siphoned off by 70 Gurus from so-called 'disciples' in daksina and donations will now go only to Temples to make them healthy and strong.
