This sculpture was inspired by a picture of an African woman sitting on a tree-stump while nursing her baby. Her faraway, dreamy look seemed to contain all her hopes for the future of her tiny baby. The carving is in elm - a wood that although widely available at present will soon become very scarce because of the ravages of Dutch Elm Disease that have swept throughout the UK.

A movie  (~350Kb) is available for this sculpture which gives a better three-dimensional impression.
