The ram forms an ideal sculptural subject because it is both highly compact, and varied in form and texture. The light colour of the pear wood forms a natural match for the subject, (although the oil finish has darkened this somewhat since the photograph was taken) and the grain emphasises the constituent forms. The carving is free-standing, without any attached base, and so will stand on any flat suface.

A movie  (~350Kb) is available for this sculpture which gives a better three-dimensional impression.
