1999 Total Eclipse, from Plymouth

Total Eclipse from Plymouth Hoe - return of the day I'd made up my mind not to attempt to photograph the eclipse, but my autopilot decided to point and click anyway. The result is not one of the great eclipse photographs of all time, but captures something of the eerie colours that swept out of the west as the total eclipse passed over us. Here Plymouth emerges from the trailing limb of the shadow: the camera cannot catch the sense of movement in the sky, the changing hues. Fifteen seconds later and this scene was back to the ordinary palatte of an extremely dull day.
