The line leaves Catesby tunnel and descends from the Northamptonshire uplands on a very uncompromising path involving two big viaducts in as many miles. The first is Catesby, towards the centre of this photograph. The second, Staverton, at the other end of the cutting behind the camera, was demolished soon after the line was closed. Catesby house can be seen to the right of the photograph. Catesby tunnel has substantial ground cover above it, but is possibly another example of a rail tunnel built to hide the line from an influential landowner.
