The Midland Railway bridge parallel to the tramway tunnel, in comparison a much larger structure, both soon to be replaced by one larger yet. There's still a smudge of soot above one shoulder of the arch. The railway trackbed here serves its last but one economic function, an access road for plant and machinery. It's rumoured locally that its last function will be that its materials are to be reused to clothe parts of the new road bridge.
