Genealogy index of Lornie / Bain / McKay / Milne
In a vague attempt to spent my time offshore more constructively, I havebeen trying to track down the Lornie family. Although they seem to be a smallfamily they are spread far and wide across the globe. The main group of Lornie'soccur in an area stretching from Errol through to Perth. From this area groups have drifted out to Dundee,Kirkcaldy, Edinburgh & Aberdeen to name a few places.
The majority of information on this website relates to Lornies in the Perthshire area, but thanks to the generosity of others I have been able to include information on Lornies in other areas.
The Lornie name originated around Errol, Perthshire in Scotland and duringthe 1700-1800's they were very much involved in the manufacturing of variouskinds of cloth/fabric. This involvement ranged from the operation of the loomsto actually owning a company producing floor coverings.
The Lornie's are classed as a sept of the clan Hay and can therefore wear their tartan. Although, one of the family John Guthrie Lornie [P319] convincedthe Lord Lyon to grant him a motto "Sto pro vertitate ", a crest and a tartan. This is another avenue that still needs investigating.

Early in 1999, I was contacted by a young girl in Australia who was researchingher family tree for a school project. I'm not entirely sure what sort of markshe received for the work but it should have been a decent one consideringher imaginative use of Excel to compile her information.
This listing is the result of her time and effort, she has even managed toget one up on me by including a picture of herself.

In the middle of 2001 I received a lot of information from Bill & Kari Lornie who live in Edinburgh. Bill's cousin Betty Wilson has done a lot ofresearch in to their branch of the family. this branch starts off in theGlendoick/Errolarea and then spreads out to Edinburgh and Canada.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a connection with my side of thefamily but it will be out there somewhere.

This group contains the details of people gleamed from the such placesas the OPR index and the IGI lists. Therefore, as such, this information shouldbe treated as a rough guide and with caution.
Geographically they range mainly from Errol to Perth , I have found a smallgroup in the Inverbervie/St Cyrus area of Kincardineshire as well as variousgroups in Fife. I can find no connections between any of this group and themain group.
