DAZEY JANE

This song is based on partial lyrics that Janie posted on the Christian Songwriters Group list in December 1997. This version came out in early 1999. Whilst it was semi-autobiographical for Janie, the intention is for it to be generic.

It is clearly nothing to do with worship, but is about sharing with other Christians who are still carrying much baggage from the past around with them, just like the rest of the world.

There is no solution apart from forgiveness.

Lyrics (by Janie Ivey and Michael Lehr)

v1:
What are you doing, Dazey Jane?
You are teetering far too close to the edge.
It's so dark and lonely there upon the ledge.
You are living in a dangerous place,
Yes, you're living in a dangerous place.

v2:
Where have you come from, Dazey Jane?
Was your mother so harsh that she blighted your life?
Did her words cut deep as any surgeon's knife?
Did they drive you to this dangerous place?
Did they drive you to this dangerous place?

Chorus 1:
But you know,
A healing mercy flows deep and wide -
You can run on down to the riverside,
And walk right into the cleansing flood.
You'll find there's nothing like a Saviour's love.
No, there's nothing like a Saviour's love.

Bridge:
Hide in your corner, stroke your pain;
Hang on to your hist'ry and go insane.
Or venture out from that lonely place,
And hold on tight to this Amazing Grace ... that you've found.

v3:
How did you get here, Dazey Jane?
Did your Daddy's excess cause you so much pain?
Did his drunken rages drive you near insane,
You retreated to this dangerous place?
You retreated to this dangerous place.

Chorus 2:
But you've found
A healing mercy that's been calling you
To a depth of wholeness you never knew
And the rushing waters will bring you through
To the passion of a Saviour's love.
And there's nothing like your Saviour's love

Coda:
Can you forgive them, Dazey Jane,
As you've now been forgiven?
(repeat and fade)
