This song was hot off the press from the Christian Songwriters Group in 1998, with inspiring lyrics supplied by Jason and honed with help from the group.

Whilst it’s far from the first song on this theme, I personally find it very exciting, as it seems to catch a current yearning for and expectation of revival and has a strong “anthemic” feel to the chorus.

Scott Michael Bennett recorded a good version of this song for a CD (otherwise mainly of traditional favourites). and you can hear or download an MP3 of it by clicking here.

Almost at the same time Kevin Tachell sent us an MP3 of another good recording of the song, adapted from my midi, which you can listen to or download here.

Lyrics (by Jason Mitchener)

Parching wind blows through the fields
An old man wipes his brow
As he wonders when relief will come
To this forsaken town
He looks up to the sky
And he offers up this cry...

Lord, it’s so dry in this place
We need Your rain to come down
Lord, will You answer this prayer
Send Your blessings on us now
Lord, let it rain
Let it rain
We need Your rain to come down

On the other side of town
A preacher sheds some tears
As he wonders when his church will see
The truths he’s preached for years
He looks up to the sky
And he offers up this cry...

Lord, it’s so dry in this place
We need Your rain to come down
Lord, will You answer this plea
Send Your blessings on us now
Lord, let it rain
Let it rain
We need Your rain to come down

One man prays for soil, another prays for souls
But they both seek a harvest only God can bring
Lord, we share their hunger, for we seek a harvest too
And so our voices sing...

Lord, it’s so dry in this place
We need Your rain to come down
Lord, will You answer this plea
Send Your blessings on us now
Lord, let it rain
Let it rain
We need Your rain to come down

Lord, let it rain
Let it rain
We need Your rain to come down
(Repeat many times and fade)
