Words (by Paul Merchant)

Lord, make me love!
If I sing
As clear as any cymbal, as loud as any gong,
But without love, I am nothing, Lord.

Lord, make me love!
If I speak
The depths of all knowledge, let me miracles work,
But without love, I am nothing, Lord.

Love is the essence of patience and kindness;
Love is the trust that casts out fear;
Love is humility, conquering pride,
Without love I am nothing, Lord.

Lord, make me love!
If I give
All things to the needy, cast away my life,
But without love, I am nothing, Lord.

Love is the dignity flowing from goodness;
Love is the strength for ever near;
Love is the warmth we may not hide,
Without love I am nothing, Lord.

Lord, make me love!
May I grow
To fullness in heaven of your love below,
For without love, I am nothing, Lord.
