WHAT SHALL I DO TODAY?

This may seem a somewhat understated song developed from lyrics that Janie provided, but I think it’s rather good of its kind. It doesn't attempt to project a powerful message, but a strong subtle message is still in there if you can relax into it.

Not all of life is about great drama, and some of us go about much of the time through a fairly simple life, where we simply hold on to our convictions of what we believe in despite the daily trials that beset us.

Lyrics (Janie Ivey & Michael Lehr)

V1.
She wakes to a day that she hopes will be diff’rent
But she knows it could end up the same.
And she talks to herself in a voice reminiscent
Of a child lost in playing a game.
There’s a room in her house that she saves for her dreamin’
When her plans for life go astray.
But she says she’s got hope ’cause there’s things she believes in
And when times get tough she will say:

chorus:
What shall I do today?
There’s so much to be had.
Just might cry today,
But I plan to laugh,
Hey, hey, hey, hey,
I sure do plan to laugh
Today.

V2:
She’s no silly fool and she's not self-deceivin’
’Bout the pitfalls that litter her road.
But she longs for a glimpse of that love she’s been missin’,
For a sharing to lighten her load.
But there’s room in her heart for high hopes and deep dreamin’
As she trusts in the weaver of grace.
And she hangs on to hope, to those things she believes in
And her smile lights up as she says:

chorus:
What shall I do today?
There’s so much to be had.
Just might cry today,
But I plan to laugh,
Hey, hey, hey, hey,
I sure do plan to laugh
Today.

Mmmm, today.
Sure do plan to laugh
Today.
