STOPTHEPRESS: The REAL story on a.d ("Yeah")

A recived this email from zygotes today, telling of the recent goings on with alt.digitiser. Makes things pretty clear (so you can ignore today's page 672).

OK, let me tell you the story of alt.digitiser's deletion...

Before the group went 'down' as such, I had sent at least four newgroup booster messages (from zer0t35@hotmail.com), to give the group better propagation. ONE rmgroup was posted (not by me) from a BT Internet address, I believe this message had the effect of wrecking alt.digitiser on the BT side. Anyhow, one night I posted an rmgroup, beleiving that little effect would come of it (if you read the FAQs, this would be true). However, a few days later, a message appears from Ezz, saying he can't get the group. It also includes the rmgroup message from me quoted in the message. So, to clear things up, I sent an e-mail to as many regulars as I could, thinking it was my message that caused the trouble. A little later, I realised that this only made the situation worse, and it has now been blown out of all proportion. I have since posted three newgroup messages on various news servers, in an attempt to bring the thing back to life.

Matthew Garrett (that is how you spell it) and I have been working on a proposal for a group in the alt.uk hierarchy, and it has been posted. And no, it's not just booster messages that get a group where it is.. newsadmins like to see references to alt.config when creating alt.* groups. As for 'proper' being in the uk. hierarchy, we dismissed this completely, due to S. Campbell's tussles with uk.net.news.config. A certain amount of alt.digitiser idiots think that the alt.config ppl are the same as the uk.net.news.config peeps - this is quite wrong, as you may know. Nobody has complete control over alt. groups, and there are no control freaks in charge of them.
