Belive it or not, I don't always publish what gets sent to me, sometimes I don't get the time, or I find something else which takes my fancy pants. Or something. Anyway, These two pieces are some my mailbox archives, the first is a rather worrying article written by Ed, written apparantly when Ed was severly depressed. The second is a usuall rant from Arran "Ace" Yarwood, about the Dreamcast. Read, and Enjoy/Cry.
How NOT to make a games website
When people make a homepage, they may choose to put in a variety of things that they're interested, in or they may just base it on a singular subject. Here's the story of "Little Jimmy" (made up) who decided to make a games website and learn from his mistakes:
Little Jimmy was fairly clever using his PC given to him by his rich Daddy a year ago, and as he's surfed the net and became addicted he thought about making his own homepage.
"Daddy!" he shouted at the tip of his voice, "I want to know how to make a website NOW!!". Daddy approached calmly and said "That's good. Now let's see... how about I employ someone to help you?" "NO!!! I want to make it by MYSELF!!!!!" replied the arrogant 12 year old. "I need a hottymel program and some templates and stuff immediately..." he demanded.
"Okay, but what if..."
"NO!!!!!!!! I'll do it myself!"
"Yet you'll need..."
"I don't care what I need, I'll make it all by myself and I won't ever need your help ever."
And so he began using the "hottymel" program. Using a file made by Lotus he changed it quickly and within half an hour it was finished. "Voila!" he exclaimed and so he began typing that he didn't want to save it to c:\ but to http://www.jimmy's page.com. Soon however he learnt his first lesson:
1. You can't save a file to the net like you can to your hard disk.
After desperately attempting to use an ordinary program to get it on the net he gave up, and later had some Rice Krispies Squares for lunch and put the entire idea of making a website to the back of his mind forever.
Oh yes, silly Daddy persisted and bought loads of HTML kit programs and all, and because Jimmy didn't want to use them, they were useless so they now were forced into working class again due to all the money lost and bowed to whatever taxes Tony Blair threw at them.
The end.

I believed you wanted some Stuff on the dreamcast.Well, I don't know much about it, but I will give it a go...
Well, here comes the Dreamcast. Enough spec to trounce the pants off the competition... Will it do well? I'm not sure.
Plus Points:
Has a modem (On-line gaming - hurrah hurrah!)
Is beige
Has 3D accelerated graphics
No reports of having to turn it upside down to get it to work
Its archetecture suggests it will be easy for people to develop software for it.
Use of Windows OS may help in the Ecumeniasation of consoles, and make it easier to port from console to PC and vice versa (May even have PC Vs. Dreamcast on-line battles in some games. We can but dream...)
Down Points:
Modem might not be in European version, and is only 33.6K Anyway (Talk about out of date)
Windows OS is Micro$oft and everyone hates them.
Has Cruddy name (I liked katana better... And Dural wasn't that bad, dispite being a character from virtua fighter)
Sony can see evrything Sega are doing, and when the time comes, will be able to go one better with the Playstation 2.
Console is linked with Sega, dispite having decided not to put their name to it...
Well, if Sega can patent enough of their technology to stop Sony Nicking it, they can probably get a foot in the door well before sony can get an answer. And, of course, by then Nintendo will probably have brought out their console (Better late than never RE: N64) and that will take some of Sony's market.
Now, in my humble opinion, Sony's best chance is to hype up their forthcoming console, so that the fanaticism of their followers will allow them to hold off people buying Sega's Console till they get their's out.
Nintendo? I guess they are slipping out of the equasion... They will have to reply heavily on Spec (as they did with the N64) and learn from their mistakes (lack of software support for thr N64), and will release their console with a huge blast of big name games.
Still, can they survive the delay between Sega's Console and their own release? I just hope they ahve already started and are keeping it under raps...
