Death of alt.digitiser
Last week I was telling you that everything was ok with a.d, and the rm group caused no ill effect to a.d's propogation. This, turned out to be not the immidiate problem. a.d has lost the plot completly, in the last week, there has been back-fire after back-fire, leaving only 5 active posting regs in the ng. (Namely Neil Kearns, x-e, me, Arran and the odd other person). Mike Jenkins has left, Goring is no longer posting, Garrett is not getting invouved and Biffo and SC have buggered off, leaving very few intresting threads.
Ineffect, alt.digitiser has imploded on itself, as has the digitiser internet community. Biffo hates us, Stu Campbell dispises us in his own sort of high-moral ground type of way, all that's left is page670, Digi! and the rather popular #digi-98 channel, though I would be very surprised if meets do remain popular there.
Ironically the Unoffical Digi site Digi! has just been updated, and is very much back up. But hits for page670 have simply fallen though the floor. Mantaining page670 as an active e-zine would be simply pointless in the future, inless the digi net community comes back from the dead.
What a f*cking shame.
An RFD for a new ng
Rather naivly maybe, I have sent an RFD to control at uk usenet for a new digi ng, going under the name of uk.media.magazines.digitiser. It probably won't go though, hell, it probably won't even be published. Like my previous attempt. And by the way, if it does get published, an announcement on digi until it's created will not be welcomed.
Incidently, an attempt to create alt.uk.games.video.digitiser by Garrett is also about to be made, and has more chance of creation. We'll see what happens.
The future of page670
If the digi world does dissapear into an oblvion, then page670 will be completly re-launched (I know I've said before, but this time I am serious). The WTF will be maintained by someone else, I'm considering asking Garrett or Jenkins, and the main cuff of the e-zine will become British Sacriligious/Satirical Broadcasting, or something along those lines. There will be more Satirical stuffee, maybe using old BSB type graphics. Alternativly it could become P/AM, where I could keep my video-games side of things going.More reviews could soon be the order of the day, as a cheap shop nearby has opened, letting out games for rent. As a result, getting out new games to hire will be much, much easier.
Of course, none of this could happen and my hits could stay lovely and soft. But then Clinton might not resign. Natch.
As for on-topicness in a.d....
The "there's too much off-topic stuffee in alt.digitiser so I can't water my plants" argument has never really held much water for me. For a start, if you want to talk about games, or digitiser, then start a tread. It's what other people do. DYS?Secondly, whats ones mans irrelevence, is anouther mans not-so irrelevence. Or something.
What I'm trying to say is, what people thought of as "bad-chatter" was, until recently, usually rather endering to Biffo quasi-digi humour. People had gathered that laughed at the same stuff. It happens.
Yes, imitation may be stupid in Stu's eye, but the a.d'ers enjoyed what they were doing. So why stop them?
The humour and irony has all gone now, it's simply not funny anymore. The glory days of anti-Killnet threads and slagging off Bunderman are long gone. As it so happens in many ngs, time travels fast, as do peoples net accounts.
A.d is no longer Kosha.
Digi's sub-eds should be shot
As of late, Teletext's sub-editors have also lost the plot, cutting out the majority of Biffo's funny witterisms, and things. Man isn't funny, Rusk is awful, and the letters page is now a serious fest. I haven't laughed at it in two weeks (except at the snakes, which are still good).Maybe digi rot is setting in, or I've just gotten bored of it. Either way, the ECTS reports simply arn't funny anymore, and digi's lost all it's charm.
Bring back the old. Please.
Finally,
I'm 15 this Saturday (day of publication) so, erm, send me your money. Maybe.
