Special OccasionsIntroducing our children's groups
Groups for childrenIf you are or have a child aged up to 11 years old, then you may like to think about membership of the appropriate group. Our Climbers (4 - 7 years old) and Scramblers (up to 4 years) meet at the church Hall on Sunday mornings at 9.50am. They join the congregation in church for a blessing and a hymn before going home with their parents at about 11.10am. They have a marvellous time with singing, activities, arts and crafts, they learn about the life and teachings of Jesus and join in the Church’s celebration of all that God has done for us. The Explorers (7 - 11 years) also meet at the Church Hall and do similar but rather more grown up actvities. What they doThe children start their meetings with an activity leading to a Bible story, then have a short service with prayers, songs and a collection. Parents are welcome to stay with their children if they wish, especially on the first visit. There is always plenty going on, so there is no need to feel like a spare part if your child wants you to be there but does not need constant attention! The children are taken to the church in time to receive a blessing at the Altar and to sing the final hymn with the people. Please collect them after the service and join us for coffee at the back of church: leaders will look after children until 11.00am if the service finishes earlier than that. Climbers and Scramblers normally meet together, but do different things according to their age and ability. Care and ResourcesOur children’s groups are all affiliated to national organisations operated and resourced by Scripture Union or the Church Pastoral Aid Society and they use first-class teaching materials. At the Priory Church dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers care for your children and introduce them to the great themes of Bible teaching in ways appropriate to their ages. We start with babes in arms and take our young people through into adulthood as they take their place in church by being on the servers' or sidespersons' rota or singing in the choir. Special Projects and EventsChristmas is a busy time. We support the Christingle Service at the Priory Church, work hard towards a Christmas production for our families and church friends and have a Christmas disco party with a special visitor at the end (ho! ho! ho!). Each year we hold activities for young children on Good Friday morning, and members of our children's groups have priority in the booking of the limited places available. The Deeping St James Rose Queen and her attendants are chosen from among our Explorers! On the last Sunday before the summer break we have our prizegiving, when each child receives a gift appropriate to his or her age. We then have an end-of-year party (this year featuring our chocolate fountain) where we play games and make and eat knickerbocker glories! We take seriously the need to help those less fortunate than ourselves so we support the Shoe Box Appeal, Children in Need, the Children's Society and other projects as they arise. Contacts |
