Wiseton Cricket Club - Twin Club

Wiseton have struck up a twinning agreement with an Australian team called Echuca South C.C., thanks to the enthusiasm of Adam Kay from Wiseton C.C. and Steve Thompson from the Australian team.We hope the two clubs can build up an interesting and friendly relationship. Here is a note from Steve introducing the Echuca South side.

Hello from Australia!!
As you may be aware, myself and Adam have taken steps to informally link our clubs in a ‘sister club’ arrangement, to provide a point of discussion, a tie between our countries and experience of how cricket is played elsewhere.  Members of Echuca South CC have shown plenty of interest in this venture, and hope it leads to much friendly contact, perhaps sometime in the future meetings between members of our two bodies.

First a brief run-down on our club.  We were formed in 1952, so compared with Wiseton are comparatively young, but in local terms we are the second oldest cricket club in our league.  Echuca is on the border of Victoria and New South Wales some 200 kms north of Melbourne with a population of 12,000.  Other towns in our league include Rochester, Tongala, Lockington, Mathoura and Moama.

Our club fields teams in three senior and two junior grades (A,B,C,U16 and U14.)
There are approximately 50 regular members from all backgrounds ranging from solicitors, bank managers, mechanics, butchers and students.  We are, first and foremost, a very social club regardless of on field performances - however we have also had our share of excellent cricketers and premiership success.

We have our own ground, shared with an Aussie Rules football team which uses it in the winter.  The club is in the process of building three new training nets at the ground, which should be ready for next season (97 / 98).  A recently renovated clubroom is sited there, which contains some memorabilia of premierships - to which soon to be added info on Wiseton, which should be a talking point in the future.

In closing, our club extends to yours the best of luck in your new season, both in the league and in the friendly matches.  Hopefully both the contact between our clubs, and the cricket played by both, will be successful.
