Wiseton Cricket Club - Working Parties 

The cricket square, the pavilion and all the ground within the perimeter fence is looked after by Wiseton CC volunteers. Working parties are held twice a week, normally Tuesday evening and Friday evening, between 6.30 p.m. and 9.00 p.m. . These working parties begin in mid March and continue until mid October.

At each session, the following jobs need to be done:

• Mowing of the square
• Strimming round the perimeter fence
• Rotary mowing the 'haha' and around site screens etc.
• Watering the square
• Brushing and mowing the week's pitches
• Rolling the pitches
• Marking out the pitches
• Repairing the worn ends with soil/seed
• Weedkilling/fertilising/pest control on the square
• Filling in rabbit holes in the outfield and flattening mole hills
• Cleaning the pavilion
• Putting on the covers, as required

During the Spring and Autumn working parties, the following extra jobs need doing:

• Scarifying the square
• Aerating the square
• Seeding and top dressing the square
• Painting or treating the covers/shed/scorebox/site-screens
• Maintenance of equipment

As with most amateur clubs, two or three people seem to do most of the work, with occasional help from other members. If each member could help on just 2 or 3 evenings during the season, it would improve the standard of the square and outfield tremendously!
