Who we are :

Off The Record has been in operation since 1992, and is a registered charity. It is the only generalist counselling service for young people in the Tameside and Glossop areas, where clients present a number of issues which include loss traumas, drugs, relationship difficulties and abuse. Off the Record promotes good mental health amongst young people aged 13 to 28 at a local level.

 

What we do :

Off The Record provides counselling activities from its central base and other
sites across Tameside and Glossop. These include:
  • 750 face-to-face counselling sessions per annum
  • The provision of assertion and lifeskills training to disadvantaged groups
  • Training both professional and non-professionals in basic counselling skills
  • Providing peer counselling training and support to Tameside schools,
    which includes the setting up of the first peer counselling scheme in Tameside
  • Providing placements for volunteer counsellors
  • Providing business links and student placements

Aims and Objectives :

Off The Record believes that all young people have of right, free and accessible advice, information and counselling to help alleviate the burden of social, cultural and economic oppression. All the work that takes place at Off The Record is underpinned by the principle of empowerment, that is, we at Off The Record work with and trust young people to find their own solutions to difficulties faced and as a training organisation work with self-directed learning.
