Café Scientifique is a monthly conversation about current issues in science and technology in a relaxed café setting.
Anyone, from sixth formers to senior citizens, can engage with an expert about the latest ideas and trends - you don't need a science background! After about half-an hour's introduction there's a break to replenish your drinks, the floor is then open to conversation - not just about the technical details but the impact upon our communities and world. The speakers are leaders in their field, many from the Northeast.
Stockton Café Scientifique is one of a growing network of Cafés Scientifique in the UK and Europe. It is a project of John Snow College, one of the University of Durham's two colleges at Queen's Campus, Stockton, with the support of 'Arc' and the Stockton Residents' & Community Groups Association.
The evening opens at 7.45 p.m. for an 8.00 p.m. start in 'Arc', Dovecot Street, Stockton. Entrance is free but please get a ticket from the box office; participants are invited to donate £2 towards expenses. 'Arc' has a wide range of soft and alcoholic drinks. There is plenty of parking nearby, only two minutes walk; and buses and trains are not far away.
You can read the frequently asked questions at Café Scientifique (new window). If you want to be on our circulation list or have suggestions for topics or some feedback from the events; please contact us.
Junior Cafés Scientifique are informal school-based events where students and practising scientists meet to question and discuss ideas and issues in contemporary science and technology.
