The PCWC Moderator's Kit Page

Welcome to the PCWC Moderator's kit page. Here you will find various forms of the kit required to collate entries and run the balloting for a People's Clue Writing Competition run regularly in the Usenet newsgroup rec.puzzles.crosswords.

Traditionally, this kit has been available in Unix form and has been passed from moderator to moderator as the competitions proceed. It is also available from the crossword archive run by James Lundon. It has the form of a Bourne shell script. On this site I have the version current in June 1998. To obtain it, download from here, and run it as a shell script. This will create a number of shell scripts and help files. Look in the file README for instructions.

I have converted this into a C program, and compiled to run under DOS on a 32-bit IBM compatible machine. To obtain it, download from here and unzip it. This comprises five files, a README file, announcement template, ballot template, and two executables: collate, and scorenum. If you don't have access to an unzipper you can download the five files separately (README, announcement, ballot, collate, scorenum). NB Don't forget to check any downloaded executables for viruses!

I am in the process of creating a 16-bit version for DOS. Watch this space!

If you want to create versions for other operating systems, please download the source files here and unzip it. If you don't have access to an unzipper you can download the five files separately (README, announcement, ballot, collate, scorenum). The source code should be adequately annotated. If you find it necessary to edit it feel free to do so, but let me know that you are doing so and mail me the updated code.

Programs updated to remove bugs.
