Cheaters never prosper ???

Cheat reps, good or bad?

Some say using cheat reps, enables them to get past sticking points while training. Others say it\rquote s good for improving 'fast twitch' muscle fibres, (the swinging movement seems to help)

Most use this technique from time to time, some for the above reasons, others for the ego trip. If you take it to it's logical conclusion, it's got to be bad :

An example: Say you did 5 sets of 5 reps in the Squat using the normal method. That is, push hard out of the hole and ease up as your leverage improves towards the top of the movement.

  Set 1: The bottom of the last rep in the first set is tough enough to be considered adequate overload to force adaptive response. The previous 4 reps weren't .

Set2: The same as set 1 .

Set3: The bottom half of the last 3 reps are now tough enough

Set4: The bottom of the last 3 reps are now tough enough to force an adaptive response. You\rquote re getting fatigued

Set5: The same as set 4 You've achieved overload stress sufficient to force an adaptive response in only 10 halves of the 25 squats, an efficiency rating of only 20 percent.

A good or bad example?

  In conclusion, I think that cheat reps have there place in the gym and your training routine, but in small doses. }

I certainly use them to good effect , if nothing else it breaks the routine up and stops it geting stale

Variety is the spice of life, (or so they say)
